Loss Adjusting in the Cayman Islands

A claim is won or lost on evidence. We produce the evidence, measured, costed and defensible.

What this service is

Loss adjusting is the independent investigation, quantification and settlement of an insurance claim. Nautic's loss adjusters are members of the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters (CILA) and accredited through the Department of Finance in Miami. We attend the damaged property, establish the cause and extent of loss, measure the cost of reinstatement, test the claim against the policy wording, and negotiate a settlement that is properly evidenced on both sides.

Hurricane season does not negotiate. When a building is damaged, the difference between a fair settlement and a poor one is almost always the quality of the survey behind it. Nautic combines chartered surveying and quantity surveying discipline with CILA loss adjusting practice, which means the reinstatement figure in our report is a genuine construction cost, built up from measured quantities and current Cayman rates, not an estimate.

What we deliver

Scope of loss adjusting work.

  • 01

    Catastrophe and hurricane claims

Rapid deployment after a named storm, with damage schedules, drone and photographic records and priority protection recommendations.

  • 02

Fire, flood and escape of water

Cause and origin liaison, scope of damage, drying and strip-out oversight, and full reinstatement costing.

  • 03

    Policy interpretation

A clear read of what the policy responds to, including underinsurance, average, excesses and sub-limits.

  • 04

    Reinstatement cost build-ups

Measured quantities priced at current Cayman rates, so the settlement actually rebuilds the building.

  • 05

    Business interruption support

Quantification of loss of rent and income where the policy provides cover.

  • 06

    Settlement negotiation

Direct negotiation with insurers, brokers and policyholders through to agreement and sign-off.

Working with Nautic

How an instruction runs.

  • Brief and fee. A short conversation about the property and the purpose, followed by a written fee proposal with the scope and basis of appointment stated plainly.
  • Inspection and information. We attend the property and gather the drawings, contracts, policies or accounts the instruction needs.
  • Analysis. Measurement, costing and evidence gathering, the part that decides whether the conclusion holds up under scrutiny.
  • Report. A clear document with the conclusion at the front, the reasoning behind it, and the assumptions declared.
  • Follow-through. We remain available to explain, defend and act on the advice, to a lender, an insurer, a board or a tribunal.

FAQ

Loss Adjusting, questions we are asked

What does a loss adjuster do?

A loss adjuster independently investigates an insurance claim: establishing the cause of damage, measuring its extent, costing the repair, checking the policy responds, and negotiating the settlement figure. Nautic's adjusters are CILA members and accredited through the Department of Finance in Miami.

How quickly can Nautic attend after a hurricane?

We prioritise catastrophe claims and attend as soon as the site is safe to access. Call +1 (345) 326-8940 to register a loss.

Can you act for a policyholder rather than an insurer?

Yes. We act on behalf of policyholders, insurers and brokers. The instruction is confirmed in writing at the outset so the basis of our appointment is never in doubt.

What is underinsurance and why does it matter?

Underinsurance occurs when a building is insured for less than its full reinstatement cost. Where a policy applies average, the settlement is reduced in proportion. A current reinstatement cost assessment prevents it.
